Video witnessing of wills extended to 2024

Witnessing a will by video link was brought into force during the pandemic to enable people who are vulnerable or isolating to have peace of mind their wishes will be legally recognised.

The witnessing of wills over video link services such as Zoom and Skype has been extended to 31 January 2024.

To protect people against undue influence and fraud, two witnesses are still required and virtual witnessing is only recognised if the quality of the sound and video is sufficient to see and hear what is happening.

The Law Commission is currently considering potential reforms to the law around wills, including whether to make the temporary measure permanent.

If you are wishing to make Wills or have any queries about the procedure involved with witnessing and require assistance please get in touch with our friendly Life Planning Team on 01904 624903.
