EXTENSION TO PAVEMENT LICENCES AND CHANGE TO YORK FOOTSTREET HOURS

The government have confirmed an extension to the temporary Pavement Licences provisions (that were brought in due to Covid) for at least another year – i.e. until 30th September 2023.  This means that businesses can apply for a Pavement Licence – e.g. for cafes, pubs and restaurants – to cover this extended period without having to have formal planning permission as well.

Many businesses will be glad to hear this but not the decision by City of York Council to change York’s footstreet hours back from 7:00 pm to 5:00 pm from 1st October.  The temporary extension back to 8:00 pm during the Christmas Market period is a small piece of good news but the main decision is disappointing for a lot of city centre business operators.
