COVID-19 UPDATE:   What does Second Lockdown mean for legal services?

Following the Government’s announcement for the country to enter into a second national lockdown as from 5th November 2020, we wish to reassure you that it is very much “business as usual” for us however, there are a few changes that you need to be aware of.

Selling/Buying Property

The property market is still very much active.  You can still move home during lockdown.  Our residential property team are still working hard to ensure that completions of sales and purchases take place.  Estate and letting agents and removal firms are continuing to work and you can continue to attend viewings of properties.

The above can continue subject to the national guidance on moving home safely which includes social distancing and wearing a face covering when attending viewings.

Please click here for the link to the national guidance.

Commercial Premises

With many non-essential businesses closing, it is more important than ever that as a tenant or landlord you receive advice about your rights during lockdown and the ongoing COVID pandemic.  There have been changes to rules and rights during this period.

Our commercial team are available to provide any guidance or assistance that you may require during this difficult time.

Wills, LPAs and Probate

During these unprecedented times, it is important that all of your personal affairs are in order including making sure you have an up to date Will and Lasting Powers of Attorney that suits your wishes and circumstances.

The management of estates and applying for probate can be undertaken as usual.  HMRC and the Probate Registry do have a backlog of inheritance tax returns and probate applications and there are circumstances where we can apply for the issue of the Grant to be expedited – please ask us for details.

Our Life Planning team can help you with all these matters and are continuing to offer meetings in order to take full instructions.

Our offices remain open during lockdown.  Please only attend our offices for scheduled meetings.  If you have documents to drop off these can be posted through the letterbox at our front door.

As an alternative to meeting in the office, we are able to offer, and encourage, meetings to take place via video link using various platforms such as Facetime, WhatsApp, Skype and Zoom.  We can, of course, also discuss matters over the good old telephone!
