Following the successful debate in the House of Commons on 24 January, bereaved co-habitees with dependent children will now be eligible for additional financial support.
The Department for Work and Pensions have extended bereavement support payment and Widows Parent Allowances to working age of parents who are not married or in a civil partnership with their late partner. Subject to final Parliamentary approval of the draft order, the application window is expected to open early this year allowing more parents to claim.
Some people may be eligible for back-dated payments if their partner died before the law was changed and the DWP will publish more details on gov.uk soon.
